FCA, historic turning point: action pact between Bentivogli's Fim and the executives

Over thirty years after the march of forty thousand and in a completely different context, the leader of the metalworkers of the Fim-Cisl, Marco Bentivogli opens up to the cadres and white-collar workers of Fiat and enters into an action pact with their association: " There is no contradiction between unity and the strike with Fiom and Uilm for the contract and this agreement: together to build the union of the future”.

FCA, historic turning point: action pact between Bentivogli's Fim and the executives

Fim-Cisl and the Cadres and Professionals Association (Aqcf), respectively the first organization in Italy of workers and cadres, have reached an agreement for a series of joint initiatives within the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Chn Industrial companies , where the metalworkers' union of the CISL represents the first trade union organization both in terms of number of union representatives and members.

Together with the Aqcf, the Fim-Cisl has decided on a general agreement on the provision of services for its members, a collaboration in the areas of research projects with the Universities on High Professionalism, the activation of union training courses common among the RSA aimed at improving their respective knowledge and skills, as well as their own action in trade union representation.

Services and conventions for associates

Workers registered with the Aqcf will be able to use the services and agreements made available by the Fim-Cisl to their members throughout the national territory, with the same advantages and possible contributions that the same Fim-Cisl members have in the various territories.

High Professionalism project

The Aqcf will participate in the research project that the Fim-Cisl has underway at the Milan Polytechnic, which involves important companies such as FCA, CHN, Finmeccanica, GE Oil&Gas, giving its specific contribution to the analysis of the condition of clerical work, of cadres and high professionals. Aqcf and Fim-Cisl will be able to organize joint activities in conferences and seminars dedicated to high professionals.

Union training

The Fim-Cisl and the Aqcf will activate common, territorial and national training courses within their union representatives in FCA and Cnh Industrial, aimed at improving knowledge and skills, as well as their own action in union representation, also by inviting executives of the Aqcf to participate in the training sessions foreseen on the occasion of conferences and General Councils.

“Historic day – commented the secretary of Fim Cisl Marco Bentivogli -: it is the first step for a joint effort between those who have saved the automotive sector and aim at participation. The integrated factory must have a strong and representative trade union that integrates precisely all the professionals from the workers to the executives. Scenario opposite to that of autumn '80, as today this recomposition is an irreplaceable element of representation of the modern and integrated factory".

“A pact of action that – Bentivogli continued in a note -, step by step, has been built for months on daily work. Organizations that both look forward. We will work together on training, services, high professionalism. We are the unions that signed an agreement that improves working conditions and wages. And above all that he learned the American lesson, in the Chrysler affair, with a lower unionization rate he was able to play a more incisive role, in the first phase; the same goes for the German and Northern European experience. Too many acronyms and too many federations facilitate corporatism and self-referentiality. The proliferation of trade union acronyms serves trade unionists more than workers. Seven trade unions in Fiat FCA are an element of weakening useful only to multiply usability and assignments. Where participation is practiced there are 1 or at most 2 trade unions. We got together for Federmeccanica's national contract when things went badly. In FCA things are going well, trade unions and industrially. Joint action when things go well has even more strength because it is dictated by choices, by foresight and not by defensive strategies. This is why we spent 7 months trying to find a common platform in Federmeccanica, but synthesis will always be difficult with those who do not go beyond their own Statute and have resolved too many accounts always in reverse with the past. No contradictions, united for the metalworkers' contract. Together to build the union of the future. It is an appeal we launched a year ago that we will continue to pursue. Our country is going through a difficult but decisive moment. It's time to do a few things, but all together”.
