FCA recalls almost 894 SUVs worldwide

There are two measures: the first concerns the 2003 Jeep Liberty and the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee with airbag problems, while the second is linked to a malfunction on the Dodge Journey crossover ABS produced between 2012 and 2015.

FCA recalls almost 894 SUVs worldwide

Bad blow for Fiat Chrysler, which recalls a total of almost 894 SUVs due to airbag and ABS problems. The first recall it's about models 2003 Jeep Liberty e 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The measure affects 284.089 vehicles in the US, 13.411 in Canada, 6.277 in Mexico and 48.212 outside the NAFTA region. FCA will replace the front and/or side sensors and the so-called Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) free of charge.

The group led by Sergio Marchionne explains that they are aware of seven cases of injuries caused by the involuntary activation of the airbags but that they have not received news of any accidents. FCA warned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the road safety agency part of the US Department of Transportation.

The group specifies that the affected vehicles are not equipped with airbags by Takata, the Japanese group which for months refused to acknowledge that its products were defective and which last May doubled the number of vehicles in the USA to 34 million equipped with its own airbags and potentially defective, thus causing a wave of recalls by the world's leading automakers.

The second call it concerns 275.614 Dodge Journey crossovers produced between 2012 and 2015 and present in the USA, in addition to 78.148 vehicles in Canada, 36.471 in Mexico and 151.476 in non-NAFTA markets where you drive on the left and where the vehicle is also sold under the Fiat Freemont brand. In this case, FCA will apply a sealing substance and, if necessary, will replace some electronic components.

An investigation conducted by FCA US, the American subsidiary of FCA, has discovered that the accumulation of excessive humidity could negatively affect the functioning of the ABS: the entry of water could deactivate the anti-blocking and electronic control systems of stability. The company says it is not aware of any injuries or accidents and specifies that the problem is often signaled by a warning light and that in any case the functionality of the brakes is not compromised.
