The Fiat brand regains market leadership in Brazil thanks to the Strada pick-up – After the collapse of recent months, numbers are also recovering in Italy and the United States

FCA: record in Brazil, rebound in Italy and the USA

In September Fiat has recorded gods historic achievements in Latin America. In addition to the market leadership in Brazil (with a 19,7% share, the highest since February 2015), the FCA group brand also achieved the primacy of thebest-selling car both in Brazil (the Strada pickup) both in Argentina (the Cronos compact sedan).

In detail, last month FCA achieved growth in registrations in Brazil equal to 25% on a cyclical basis and 30% on a trend basis. The results are well above the market average, which recorded a growth of 14% compared to August this year and a decrease of 11% compared to September 2019.

In Italy, however, the FCA group recorded a leap in registrations of 17,52% in September, to 36.979 vehicles, against 31.466 in the same period last year (data from the Ministry of Transport). Also in this case the result is double that of the average of car manufacturers (+9,54%). Fiat Chrysler's market share stood at 23,68%, against the previous 22,08%. Between January and September, FCA sales stopped at 227.083 units, down 35,72% compared to the same period of 2019.

As for the United StatesFCA registrations fell 10% year-on-year in the third quarter, but rebounded 38% compared to the previous three months. As regards the performance of individual brands, Chrysler grew by 8% while Fiat it dropped 53% and Alfa Romeo saw a 17% year-over-year increase in sales. The Jeep brand lost 9%, Ram 2%. It was even worse in Dodge: -31%. In the first nine months of 2020, again on an annual basis, registrations decreased by 20%.

All the data, of course, are strongly conditioned by the pandemic, which has brought the automotive sector to its knees globally.
