FCA, for Pomigliano the future is the smart factory

The future of the FCA plant in Pomigliano is the interconnected smart factory. There was talk of this on the occasion of the celebrations, at the historic headquarters near Naples, of the 40 years of the Fiat Panda: the event was attended by the CEO of FCA Emea Pietro Gorlier and by the unions, in particular the General Secretaries of Fim, Fiom and Uilm. "Pomigliano today - argued Marco Bentivogli, general secretary of Fim Cisl and Raffaele Apetino, national automotive coordinator also of the metalworkers of the Cisl - represents the top and the avant-garde of the FCA plants in the world both from a technological, innovative and from a point of view from the point of view of environmental sustainability".

The meeting also recalled how in 2011, through a unique automotive back-sharing operation in the world, from Poland to Italy, the production of the latest generation of the Panda was brought, which churned out around 1 million and 435 thousand cars. A bet accepted and also won by the trade unions, who signed the agreement on June 15, 2010. But Tuesday it was presented the first Panda Hybrid with a combined system between electricity and combustion which allows an always constant battery charge during deceleration and greater thrust when accelerating.

The Industrial Plan, confirmed to date by 5 billion, provides for the production of 13 models, 12 electrifications with 2 new engines and 2 updates of the Euro 6 Final D engines. In addition to the Panda, the launch of the Tonale SUV is planned in Pomigliano, starting from second half of 2021: between Panda and Tonale it is an investment of over 1 billion euros, with product and process investments that will also affect the production departments with installation on the new robots and a new paint job to meet the needs deriving from the new SUV.

“Like Fim Cisl – added Bentivogli and Apetino – we believe that the confirmation and development towards the electric of the new models for the Pomigliano plant goes in the direction we have always supported. We are even more convinced today that the responsibility we assumed as Fim Cisl in 2010 was a choice that secures work and the workers of Pomigliano but above all that laid the foundations for the definitive relaunch of the Neapolitan site, in an extremely negative moment for industrial production in Italy”.

“We continue to think that the future of the automotive sector, which in our country employs around 258 workers between direct and indirect ensures about 6% of GDP, must be at the center of the government's agenda, just as other European countries are doing with public investment policies in support of the transition to electricity, in favor of market demand and the diffusion of public and private recharging infrastructures".
