Fca, Gorlier instead of Altavilla? Hunt for the 4,5 million car manager

FCA number one Mike Manley will have to decide by the end of the month whether and with whom to replace the outgoing Alfredo Altavilla in a key area for the group, EMEA. The choice could fall on Gorlier who is now in Detroit but could return

Who will be the front-line manager who will take the place of Alfredo Altavilla at FCA, at the helm of the Europe area? The "hunt" for the man who will sit on an area of fundamental importance for the Lingotto has begun: 4,75 million cars sold last year with a profit that almost doubled compared to 2016, which exceeded 3,5 billion EUR. And the name of begins to circulate Pietro Gorlier, from Turin, who joined Fiat in 1989, current president and CEO of Mopar (parts and customer services), sits on the Group executive council - the committee that brings together all FCA's front-line managers and which meets once a month - and is also the head of Magneti Marelli, the components company at the center of the projects and sales negotiations and whose spin-off was started before the death of Sergio Marchionne. Gorlier currently lives in Detroit and his appointment would balance the current position at the top of the group with an Italian manager.

Corriere della Sera reports the indiscretion on Gorlier's name. In truth, the new CEO of FCA Mike Manley could also decide, for now, not to replace Altavilla (who in any case remains in office until August 31st), keeping the interim and buying time. The decision, it is clear, requires caution and must be matured with care. In fact, the outgoing manager had the management of a key area for FCA, the EMEA area which includes not only Europe but also the Middle East and North Africa. A large part of FCA's turnover comes from here and the industrial plan presented to Baolocco by Sergio Marchionne, shortly before his dramatic exit from the scene, continued to assign EMEA - with its highly prestigious brands such as Maserati and Alfa Romeo and the other strongly rooted in Italy such as Fiat and Lancia – an extremely important role in the group's strategies.
