La European Investment Bank e Fiat Chrysler Automobiles today finalized a new loan of 250 million euros for FCA research and development projects. The three-year loan will support the activity of the Italian R&D centers of the automotive group and consolidates the collaboration between the bank of the European Union and FCA, a collaboration which has led since 2009 to the completion of transactions for a total of 2,4 billion .

In detail, FCA's R&D investment plan for the three-year period 2017-2019 aims at a number of key objectives, such as greater efficiency and the reduction of CO2 emissions in petrol and alternative fuel engines and the study of future hybrid platforms.

Part of the loan will be allocated to the plants located in Southern Italy (Apulia) of the subsidiary Magneti Marelli, a company that designs and manufactures high-tech components and systems for the automotive sector. As far as the EIB is concerned, the loan fits into traditional financing sectors, such as the fight against climate change and energy efficiency.

The operation is supported by the InnovFin – EU Finance for Innovators facility with the contribution of the European Union through the financial instruments of the Horizon 2020 programme.
