FCA: 1,6 billion on electric cars and Maserati SUVs

1,6 billion euros for Maserati. The operation, announced today by FCA, will serve to finance electrification and autonomous driving technologies and is part of the 5 billion investment plan presented by the company in 2018.

“All new Maserati models will be developed, engineered and produced 100% in Italy and will adopt hybrid and battery electric propulsion systems capable of providing both high innovation and high performance, typical of the brand's DNA. All Maserati electric models will combine traditional driving dynamics with next-generation electric technology, offering unique driving modes, extended range and ultra-fast charging capabilities.

As for autonomous driving, the company points out how all new Maseratis will offer autonomous driving solutions, "starting from an enhanced level 2 we will reach level 3 able to offer an almost complete independence of the vehicle, capable of maintaining the lane and bringing the vehicle to a safety stop on the side of the road in case the driver does not is able to take control of it”.

The allocated resources will be destined to Modena, Cassino, and Turin. “Modena is already starting with an electric and traditional sports car which will replace the Gran Cabrio and GT and car customization activities for Maserati”, explains the general secretary of the Fim Cisl, Marco Bentivogli.

The new supercars will instead be produced in Turin (both electric and hybrid) Granturismo and granCabrio. Electric engines are also planned, the new electric 500, the renewal of the Levante, the Ghibli and the Quattro Porte with a hybrid version. In the first quarter of 2020 the new SUV for Maserati will be produced in Cassino on hybrid and electric platform.

“These investments confirm the plan announced in November 2018, within the 5 billion of investments until 2021. The allocation and the start of the works for the construction of the C-Uv Tonale in Pomigliano are reaffirmed. This confirms the creation of a new gearbox in Verrone, a new engine in Pratola Serra and further production growth in Sevel. 90% of the plan is being implemented and with it the announced investments together with the complete electrification and hybridization of the entire range”, Bentivogli says.
