Fastweb: 500 million more for the fiber network

Fastweb will invest 500 million more than expected by 2020 and will upgrade its fiber network by bringing the connection speed to 200 megabits per second. By 2016, the new speed will be guaranteed in 30 cities (equal to 25% of the network), in 2017 in 60 cities (70%) and in 2018 in all 100 cities covered by the company.

"We will start from the smallest cities because we believe that there shouldn't be a two-speed Italy", explained the CEO of Fastweb, Alberto Calcagno.

In addition, the telecommunications company will extend its network from the current coverage of around 30% to 50% in 2020. At the end of the plan it will be present in 500 cities and will reach around 13 million households and businesses.

"The extension and upgrade plan, in its entirety - Calcagno explained - provides for cumulative investments in the period 2017-2020 for 500 million, which will be added to those already taken into account".

The manager recalled that to date the group has already invested around 9 billion in the network, making use of 30% of its turnover each year for investments.
