Phase 2 for businesses, shops, restaurants, transport: this is how we will start again

START AGAIN BUT HOW? Here is what is expected - even if it is not yet known since when - for businesses, transport, bars, restaurants, shops, cinemas, stadiums in Phase 2 of the fight against Coronavirus

Phase 2 for businesses, shops, restaurants, transport: this is how we will start again

The watchword is: live with the virus. Sooner or later it will happen and that will be normal, because you can't spend your life in quarantine or even go back to normal in the blink of an eye. It will be a gradual and very long process, given that the experts are now in agreement: we will have to use the utmost caution in travel and in social and work contacts until the vaccine is found. So for many months, or for years. But how will we start again, when will it be possible? Meanwhile, in a staggered manner, depending on the contagion index. The famous Phase 2 will start when the contagion index (currently equal to 1, i.e. one person infects another), drops to 0,5: in that case we will begin to see shops, bars open again, and with due caution restaurants. The last to reopen will be the traditionally most crowded places: discos, stadiums, cinemas, conferences. In that case you will have to wait for the index to touch 0, i.e. in a long time to come.

BUSINESSES

The priority today is to understand the right time to reopen businesses, so that economic activity restarts as soon as possible. There is talk of a selective green light as early as Tuesday 14 April, but obviously aiming to continue with smart working where possible, and strictly respecting the distance of at least one meter between desks. Even better if equipped with masks.

SHOPS

Then there are the shops. For shopping malls, as a crowded place par excellence, it will be tough, but for neighborhood traders they may have the green light in May. The rules will be the same applied in recent weeks for open establishments, i.e. supermarkets and pharmacies: staggered entrances, distance of at least one meter between people, staff equipped with masks and gloves. At the moment there is no preference between sectors, but it is clear that crowding in the shopping streets will be avoided.

BARS AND RESTAURANTS

They won't be among the first to reopen, that's clear. It will be discussed at the end of spring, but with very strict precautions: it will be possible to approach the counter while maintaining a distance of 1 meter from both managers and customers. Where there are tables, the distance between them must be at least two meters in order to allow the passage of the waiters, who must absolutely wear gloves and masks. Ditto for those with outdoor tables.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Another major issue is that of transport, still operational today but at a very reduced rate. When most of us can/should leave the house, somehow he will have to be able to take a tram, the subway, a train. Among the hypotheses there is also a suggestive one, which refers to the past: the inspector on board, to control not so much - in this case - the payment of the ticket as the number of passengers and the distance they keep between them.

CINEMA AND STADIUMS

Let's face it: they will be the last to reopen. That's why to conclude Serie A and European cups, for example, the hypothesis of closed doors is making more and more headway, which would be a good albeit bleak compromise. The crux is not so much that of the seats (they can be limited, both in the halls and in the stands), as in the queues at the box offices and entrances, which represent the gatherings par excellence.
