It will change our way of living, of working, of taking holidays, of moving around. And therefore also to take the train. Precisely for this Trenitalia has already prepared Phase 2 of its service, used every day by millions of Italians, whether they are commuters (and therefore probably returning on May 4) or tourists. The handbook is clear and rigorous: mandatory mask, sanitizers on board, leopard-spotted seats (a bit like what will happen on urban public transport). mabove all a compulsory nominal ticket for those traveling on Frecce and Intercity, where in any case reservations will be mandatory.
The news takes place on Monday 4 May, in conjunction with the entry into force of the Dpcm of 26 April, which regulates the resumption of many activities and the so-called "coexistence with the virus". Trenitalia also communicated that guarantees full compliance with personal data protection obligations, while ensuring travelers a very high level of health safety by allowing, for example, to be warned in the event that the journey has been shared with a passenger who subsequently tested positive for the virus.
The "checkerboard" seat reservation system is therefore confirmed on board Frecce and Intercity with a 50 percent reduction in maximum occupancy, so as to allow the social distancing required by the prophylaxis rules. With the gradual reopening of production and commercial activities, from 4 May the offer of regional and, progressively, also national transport services will experience a new increase in frequency, not yet at full capacity but to a consistent extent to satisfy the demand for mobility estimated by the government commission.
In the case of regional trains, on the other hand, tickets will continue to be non-personalised and without seat reservations, but in order to prepare for patchwork there will be the indications of the places to be left free and indications on individual behavior to adopt during and at the end of the trip, supplied with all the tools available (monitors, audio speakers, posters). As for the stations, one-way paths will be prepared to separate the incoming and outgoing flows, distributing people in such a way as to avoid gatherings and continuing with scrupulous checks at the access and exit gates.
