Facebook, pressing on Zuckerberg: "Leave the presidency"

Mark Zuckerberg increasingly in the eye of the storm. After the unconvincing answers given to the US House on the Cambridge Analytica case, in the United States the pressure on Facebook's number one is skyrocketing.

The Illinois state treasurer joined the New York City treasurer in asking Zuckerberg to step down as chairman of the social network's board of directors.

“Basically Zuckerberg is not accountable to anyone for what he does. Not the board, not the shareholders,” said Michael W. Frerichs, the Illinois treasurer who oversees the state's investments, referring to his dual roles as CEO and chairman of the board. "Right now, Zuckerberg is his own boss and clearly that's not working out," he added.

Frerichs follows the proposal made a few weeks ago by Scott Stringer, the New York City finance manager who manages pension funds with at least $ 1 billion of Facebook shares in his portfolio. According to Stringer, the social network should have not only an independent board chairman, but also three independent board members with expertise in data and ethics.

Recall that in addition to holding the roles of CEO and chairman of the board, Zuckerberg also holds 60% of the voting power despite owning only a 14% share of the group.

On the Nasdaq, Facebook shares gained 0,2% to $164,79. Since the beginning of the year, the decrease is equal to 6,77%.
