From now on it will be easy for anyone who wants to search for the profile of a celebrity or public figure on Facebook. You will no longer have to come across fake pages and fake profiles, hoping sooner or later to be able to contact the authentic profile of the star you are looking for in an almost spasmodic motion. Facebook has introduced the so-called verified pages, which is a tool for recognizing authentic profiles from fake ones.

For example, those who are now looking for Selena Gomez's profile on Facebook you will find a blue dot next to the star's name and surname representing the page verification symbol. The icon was designed to speed up the distinction between real and fake accounts, perhaps created by fans and simple users. The distinctive sign is visible almost everywhere: from username searches on the top bar, on the timeline of famous people followed and in the other spaces dedicated to user profiles.

“The verified pages belong to a small number of prominent public figures – explained Facebook – These are celebrities, journalists, government officials, popular brands and companies with a large audience”. The function is another example of how Facebook takes its cue from other social networks, like Twitter, to add features and options. In fact, the microblogging platform introduced the concept of a verified account as early as 2009.
