Facebook changes its name: Zuckerberg has decided

Facebook Inc, parent company of the most important social network on the planet, is destined to change its name. She would decide Mark Zuckerberg in person, according to as reported by the site The Verge, which cites sources inside the Californian giant.

But how do you explain such a choice? Zuckerberg has just announced 10 hires in Europe to develop the Metaverse, a futuristic project which consists of a sort of virtual reality shared via the web, where one is represented in three dimensions through one's own avatar.

The number one of Facebook would therefore have decided to inextricably link his company to the future project of the Metaverse, distancing himself from the social network that has been creating so much controversy in recent weeks and which has now lost much of the attraction it once had among the younger generations .

Now the million (or billion) dollar question is: How will Facebook Inc be renamed? Based on leaked rumors, the name of the new holding - the giant that will head Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and all the other services and platforms in the Zuckerberg galaxy - should be unveiled during the annual "Connect" conference, scheduled for this year for 28 October.

As surprising as it is, Facebook's move is certainly not an original move. In the past, other tech giants had already announced surprise name changes, starting with His Majesty Google, which in 2015 reorganized entirely under a holding company called A. Even in that case, behind the choice there was the intent to send a signal and that is that Big G was no longer just a search engine.

Mutatis mutandis, Zuckerberg's goal is much the same: to let the world know that his empire is no longer just about social media.

At the moment, however, the response from investors seems timid: in the pre-market, the share of Facebook gains 0,36%.
