A pinch of luck served up the winning opportunity and Ferrari didn't let it escape: Sebastian Vettel surprisingly won the Australian GP, where Lewis Hamilton was the overwhelming favorite after the brilliant practice session. The Englishman from Mercedes seemed impregnable even in the race but had to settle for second place: the success of the Cavallino, it must be said, matured in fortuitous conditions, thanks to a timely pit stop by Vettel under the Virtual Safety Car regime for Grosjean's Haas stopped on the track for a badly fixed wheel, which makes the race turn.
Seb stops on lap 25 when Hamilton and Raikkonen had already stopped, respectively on lap 19 and 18: thanks to the gap he had (over 11”), the 'counter-attack' in the pit entrance and the pace advantage, the German returns to the track in front of Hamilton and seals the race. The right train passed and the Cavallino got on it.
