F1: Hamilton triumphs at Monza but victory is sub judice

Lewis Hamilton confirms himself the ruler of the Formula 2015 World Championship 1 winning the Italian GP with authority before the Monza public who at the end of the race unfurled a huge banner with the words "Save Monza", in reference to a possible absence of the Monza circuit from the F1 calendar starting from the 2017 season.

Second place for Sebastian Vettel who returns to the podium after the tire explosion at Spa a few laps from the end which cost him third place. The German was never able to worry Hamilton who had a race pace 4-5 tenths slower than the Ferrari driver. Third place for an exceptional Felipe Massa who with Williams returns to celebrate on the podium in front of what was his audience until a few years ago. And it is precisely on the public that two brief remarks need to be made: if on the one hand the joyful red wave that was created under the podium in Monza a few minutes after the race was impressive, on the other the boos towards the winner of the Hamilton race, guilty, perhaps of having dominated the grand prix by destroying the competition.

All comeback race for Kimi Raikkonen. The Finn started from second place but at the moment of the start he remained planted on his starting square being overtaken by all the single-seaters well before the variant of the straight. It was a comeback race for Raikkonen, which ended in fifth place as evidence of a good feeling with the Brianza circuit. Perhaps with a different start we could have seen two Ferrari drivers on the podium.

Also noteworthy is the knockout for Nico Rosberg. The Mercedes driver, Hamilton's main opponent in the world championship, was forced to retire two laps from the end due to an engine failure in his single-seater that went up in smoke. Before retiring Rosberg was in third position and, finishing on the podium, he could have still kept open a small hope of a comeback for this world championship. With Hamilton's triumph and Rosberg's retirement, the gap between the two in the standings widens: now the Briton, who has reached 252 points, manages a good 53 lengths ahead of his teammate. In third position in the general classification there is always Sebastian Vettel with 178 points.

It should be noted, however, that several hours after the end of the race the order of arrival of the Monza GP still remains in discussion. In fact, the race direction announced that the two Mercedes are under investigation for tire pressure. The tire pressure rule was introduced just a few days ago after the events that occurred in the previous Spa GP in which a tire exploded for Rosberg in practice and for Vettel in the race. According to the marshals' checks, Rosberg's tires would have been 0,3 Psi more deflated, while those of Hamilton even by 1.1 Psi. It remains to be seen whether there will be sanctions for both cars and in particular for Hamilton's. A penalty of 20 seconds compared to the final result is possible but if the marshals were to opt for this decision, his victory would not be in danger given that he finished 25 seconds ahead of Ferrari's Vettel.
