Wine export: France leader, Italy second

La France confirms itself as the largest exporter of wine in the world. To say it is a relationship of Nomisma, according to which in 2015 French wine exports reached 8,3 billion euros, 54% more than Italy's. Furthermore, France, as regards the bulk market, represents the second importer after Germany, with almost 6 million hectoliters purchased from abroad

2015 saw a 7% growth on an annual basis in the value of French exports, which, however, as regards volumes, stop at 14,1 million hectoliters against the 20 million hectoliters exported by Italy, for an average price of 5,84 euros per liter for French wines and 2,67 euros per liter for Italian ones. In the calculation, the average 16,87 euros per liter of French bubbles weigh heavily.

For Denis Pantini, Head of Wine Monitor of Nomisma, in 2006 the difference between the French and Italian markets was much greater: "The difference equal to 96%, practically French exports were worth double the Italian one when already then we exported 23% of the quantity more. Then over the years the gap narrowed, so much so that in the case of still wines this gap went from 42% to 25%, highlighting both an increase in volumes but above all a requalification of exported products”.

Furthermore, as mentioned, France also represents the second world importer of bulk wine behind Germany, with almost 6 million hectoliters imported in 2015 against the 9 million of the Germans.
