Export: the Italian mission in South America starts

The South American mission promoted by the Presidency of the Council and the Ministry of Economic Development is underway. Also present was the CEO of Sace Alessandro Castellano. The countries involved in the mission, Chile, Peru, Cuba and Colombia offer great export potential for Italian companies.

The mission to South America promoted by the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Economic Development is about to start and will see the participation of Alessandro Castellano, director of SACE, an insurance-financial group active in export credit, credit insurance, protection of investments, financial guarantees, sureties and factoring.

Four countries will be involved: Chile, Peru, Colombia and Cuba. During the mission, new operations being studied in the 4 countries will be announced for 1,1 billion euros, while the CEO will sign an important agreement with Banco de Chile to encourage Italian export to the country. New initiatives dedicated to Cuba are also planned, to encourage Italian exports and investments in a high-potential frontier market such as the South American one.

An interesting opportunity both for Italy, given the traditional relationships that our country has always maintained with South America and the growth of emerging markets, but also for SACE with a portfolio of export operations and investments insured in the four countries for 1,5 billion euros, it represents the first European export credit company by exposure.

Italian exports in the 4 countries reached 2,2 billion euros in 2014. The countries involved in the mission offer great export potential for Italian companies. In particular, Chile, Peru and Colombia are among the top countries based on the Export Opportunity Index – an index of opportunities for Italian exports in 195 countries around the world developed by SACE – Chile and Peru, with a score of 65/100 ( 0= zero opportunity and 100=maximum opportunity), are positioned in 15th position, while Colombia with 64/100 in 16th place. Cuba deserves a separate mention, which is experiencing a phase of change in its economic model, relaunching the manufacturing sector to reduce its dependence on imports, and where Italian companies can seize important opportunities.
