Italian export: mechanics returns to pre-Covid levels

in 2021 Italian exports in the mechanical sector should reach 29,6 billion euros, a result up 15,1% compared to the previous year and just below the 30,1 billion in 2019, the last year before Covid. The forecasts are from the Studies Office of Anima Confindustria.

In detail, if you narrow your gaze to the first semester, the increase on an annual basis is 26,9%, with a total turnover of 15,6 billion and a trade balance exceeding 8,3 billion euros.

“The decisive recovery of exports is mainly determined by trade with Europe and East Asia”, explains Marco Nocivelli, president of Anima Confindustria.

In terms of revenues, the most significant country for Italian mechanical exports is now la Germany (1,53 billion in the first half, +24,2% year on year), followed by France. The United States (1,38 billion) slipped from first to third position. Worth noting is the leap of the China (910,2 million, +85,0%). Increase exports also towards UK (787,7 million euros, +50,1%), Spain (+ 29,8%) and Poland (+ 41,3%).

“The development of exports to Germany and France is a clear sign of the recovery of the European economy, not only in the mechanical sector – continues Nocivelli – Unfortunately, the crisis in raw materials and the rise in energy costs are afflicting the entire continent, with a slowdown in production and a cap on profits. As soon as it will be possible to have a more constant and intense frequency of relations, we are sure that trade exchanges with non-European countries, such as China, can be further improved".

In the meantime, "we must concentrate on the European market, which has increased the demand for our products by over 25%, and on the United States - concludes Nocivelli - The maxi investment plan approved by the Biden administration, which provides for a massive modernization of public and private infrastructures, will open up new opportunities for Italian mechanics”.
