Agri-food exports fly towards 20 billion: wine is recovering after the crisis

THEexports of agri-food districts continues towards the 20 billion euro milestone, the third best result after the record set in the fourth quarter of 2020. Our agri-food excellence achieved 2021 billion euro of sales abroad in the third quarter of 5,6 alone (+8,9 .12,7% yoy, +2019% compared to 16,4), while compared to 9,8 billion, this figure had never been reached in the first nine months of the year (+14,1% yoy, +2019% compared to the first nine months of XNUMX). To drive this positive performance the wine supply chain, finally returned to growth after a tormented two-year period. These are the main results of Intesa Sanpaolo's latest report in the first nine months of 2021, according to which agri-food exports are continuing the growth path that not even the pandemic had managed to stop.

And so the wine districts are leaving behind a negative 2020 and achieving double-digit growth in the first nine months of 2021 both compared to 2020 (+14,6%) and compared to 2019 (+11,7%). The first supply chain for contribution to growth is that of Langhe wines, Roero e Monferrato with growth of over 200 million compared to the third quarter of 2019 (+17,9% on a trend basis; +16,3% compared to the pre-pandemic). The wines of the Florentine and Sienese hills also did very well, achieving 87 million more exports than in 2019 (+17%).

Excellent performance also from all the other agri-food districts, starting with the supply chain pasta and sweets, at the top Dolci di Alba and Cuneo (+15,3% on a trend basis, +13,6% compared to 2019) and the pasta sector of the Alimentare di Parma (+3,1% and +31,3% respectively). The evolution of the districts of the is also very positive dairy (+17,5%) in strong recovery compared to 2019 (+13,8%); coffee districts grew by double digits (+12,9% and +20,4% respectively). Fly the export of agricultural products: Piedmont hazelnuts and fruit stand out in particular (+34% tendential and +35,6% compared to the pre-crisis) and Pistoia nursery gardening (+37,3% and +39,3% respectively).

Good recovery also for the districts of meats and sausages (+16,4%) after a 2020 closed in substantial parity. The growth is driven by Meat from Verona (+16,7% on a trend basis and +22,7% compared to the first months of 2019) and Salami from Modena (respectively +20% and +12,5%). And finally, the fish supply chain also brings home a double-digit positive result (+19,2% yoy) but does not recover the gap compared to the pre-pandemic (-4,1%).

In suffering results the canning chain (-5,4% trend) after a record-breaking 2020, but which is still positioned in the first nine months of 2021 at higher levels than in 2019 (+4,6%). Growth was slowed down by the fruit and vegetable preserves and Foggia area preserves (44 million less than pre-crisis). Same thing for the rice supply chain (-6,7% on a trend basis but +5,8% compared to the first nine months of 2019). The oil supply chain was practically on par in the first nine months of 2021 (-0,9% trend; +6% compared to the same period of 2019). 

Note the growth in exports to our main partners: primarily the Germany (+5,7% tendential), to follow Use (+ 16,2%) and France (+9,6%). On the other hand, the volumes exported to the United Kingdom (-8,7%) declined in the third quarter, which from 1 January 2021 is no longer part of the customs and tax territory of the European Union.
