Expo, the whole story in 35 editions: here they are one by one

The Universal Expositions have a long tradition behind them: 170 years like the countries which, to date, are members of the BIE, International Exhibition Office, the organization leading the Expo.

Since its inception, the BIE has always classified exhibitions, adopting a series of regulations. We can distinguish: Historical exhibits (from 1851-1933), le First and second category General Exhibitions (1935-1962), the Universal Expositions (1992 and 2000) and, finally, those Sign up (2005-2020).

According to the latest protocol, the Universal Expositions are characterized by five elements: frequency every 5 years, the maximum duration of 6 months, the construction of the pavilions by the participants, undefined size of the area and a general theme. Furthermore, there must be a time interval of at least 15 years between two exhibitions organized by the same country.

From this classification are distinguished the Specialized Exhibitions, characterized by a smaller exhibition area, defined by a specific theme, with a maximum duration of three months and organized between two Universal Expositions. Let's go through them, one by one.
