Ex Ilva, the metalworkers' unions are pressing the Government: "The situation is serious, it's time to intervene"

Onformer Ilva i metalworkers' unions they call the Government into question, "which cannot continue to be a spectator". Yesterday a tough stance by Fiom, Fim and Uil, which takes its cue from an accident in the former Ilva factories in Genoa but broaden the discussion and the cry of alarm to the state of the entire steel group.

Ex Ilva: the alarm cry of the metalworkers' unions

"The situation inside the factories of the former Ilva - today Acciaierie d'Italia - has now reached a level of unsustainability which, it is clear to the Government, risks causing serious industrial consequences, also for the entire Italian manufacturing system, social - with 3 direct employees on layoffs, in addition to 1.700 still in Cigs in Ilva AS- for the entire related system, piece by piece, with as many employment repercussions”. This is what is claimed in a joint note signed by Fiom-Cgil, Fim-Cisl and Uilm.

“One cannot think of managing the largest steel factory in Europe – continues the union statement – without hiring plant safety and worker safety as a preliminary to any hypothesis of an industrial perspective", add the unions, who also highlight "the inadequacy of the governance of Acciaierie d'Italia", once agreed by the Conte government with ArcelorMittal, which today manages the Italian steel group : “Acciaierie d'Italia needs an urgent plant maintenance plan, of an industrial plan detailed (based on the agreement of 6 September 2018 signed at institutional level), of an investment plan and – above all – of an ordinary management not subordinated to the results of the future corporate structures”, because “the former Ilva is a strategic asset for the entire industrial system of our country”.

The unions ask Draghi to intervene, but the source of the troubles is in the agreement agreed by Conte

In conclusion, Fim, Fiom and Uilm "are asking for the umpteenth time for a clear stance by the Government and the preparation of adequate tools and interventions". But the root of today's problems is upstream and it is that bankruptcy agreement defined in 2018 by the Conte government which must be re-discussed as a priority, as it is not advantageous for Italy and for the public shareholder (represented without adequate powers at the top of Acciaieri d' Italy from Invitalia). And who knows, under the radar, Draghi isn't thinking about it.
