Ex-Alcoa, Sider Alloys presents the business plan

The first electrolytic cells will be started up in January 2022, while in October 2021 the first products can be placed in the foundry and when fully operational, the primary aluminum factory in Portovesme, in the Sulcis region, could count on 370 workers.

This is the summary of the industrial plan presented by the top management of Sider Alloys to the undersecretary of Mise Todde, the Ministry of Labour, Invitalia, the Region of Sardinia and trade unions. The company's first technical meeting is scheduled for next Wednesday confirmed the investment of around 150 million for the revamping of the Sardinian factory.

In the meantime, from Monday 14 the Covid cig workers will return to the plant: 31 internal and 22 out of 30 of the controlled maintenance company Gms.

“After the energy price agreement signed on July 22 between Sider Alloys and Enel which represented a step forward towards the relaunch of the plant, the resumption of production activities at the Portovesme site and the revamping of the lines, after very difficult years , today the company has us presented the updated business plan with the planned investments”, reports the national secretary of the Fim Cisl, Valerio D'Alo which sees the latest news from Sardinia as a "positive signal" both for workers on layoffs, who will be recalled in the coming days, and for those on the move, who could finally go back to work.

"For themobile workers – explains D'Alò – it was decided to convene a table at the Ministry of Labor for the problem of the expiry of the extension and a possible intervention on the small amounts paid to the workers”.
The trade unionist also informs that “this morning we asked the Government and the company questions about the energy question, about the interruptibility and the ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme) facilitations which have been confirmed and which therefore will not be a reason to slow down the plan. We also asked for clarifications on the restart of the foundry since the scrap procurement market is in crisis on a global level".
