Eurozone: retail sales surprise, PMI services improve

The Eurostat data indicates an increase of 0,4%, against much more pessimistic estimates (-0,8%) – As for the index on services, the data for Italy and France improve, while Germany worsens.

In October theand retail sales in the Eurozone recorded a higher than expected increase. Eurostat data speak of an increase of 0,4% over the month, while analysts had estimated a more contained +0,1%. On an annual basis, however, the survey recorded a increase of 0,4% on year, against estimates of -0,8%. The data for September have also been revised: from -0,7 to -0,6% on a cyclical basis and from -1,5% to -1,4% on a trend basis.

Meanwhile, it also goes up the PMI index relating to services in the Eurozone, which passes between October and November 46,4 to 47,5 points. An improvement which however is not sufficient to return above the threshold of 50 points, which according to economists marks the border between growth and contraction. As regards Italy, the PMI for services rose from 43,9 points in October to 45,8 in November. France also improved, from 44,6 to 49,6 points, while Germany worsened slightly, from 50,6 to 50,3 points.
