Eurozone, 400 jobs lost in the third quarter

Circa 400 jobs lost between the second and third quarters in the euro area. This is the balance that emerges from the data on employment levels released today by Eurostat. Employment decreased by 0,2% compared to the previous three months and by 0,7% in the year-on-year comparison. The community statistical office notes that the contraction has affected practically all sectors.

The sharpest drop was in construction, where employment fell by 1,5%. In the period under review Eurostat counted 146 million employed in the area, while in the study released three months ago there were 146 million 400 thousand employed.

Looking at the whole European Union of 27, there are 222,6 million employed people, also in this case down: by 0,2% from the previous three months and by 0,5% on an annual basis.
