The inflation rate in January is the lowest recorded in the currency union since July 2009 – In the EU, a drop of 0,5% after -0,1% in December – Greece -2,8%, Italy and Germany - 0,5%.

Eurozone inflation collapses. This was announced by Eurostat, according to which in January the annual inflation rate of the currency union was -0,6%, an acceleration compared to -0,2% in December 2014. This is the highest rate low recorded since July 2009. One year ago, in January 2014, the figure was +0,8%.

In the EU of 28, on the other hand, the average is -0,5% against -0,1% in December. Looking at the various countries, the negative record of Greece stands out, registering a -2,8%, while Italy, as well as Germany, stood at -0,5%. Among the countries of the Union, only the United Kingdom (0,3%), Sweden (0,4%), Austria and Romania (0,5%) and Malta (0,8%) were positive.

On an annual basis, prices in the restaurant, bar and rental sector (+0,14%) and tobacco products (+0,07%) grew, while the most substantial drop was the one recorded in transport fuel sector (-0,77%).
