Eurozone: trade balance +0,9%, but both imports and exports are down

According to the latest Eurostat data, imports fell by 4,1% in June, while exports recorded an even more marked drop (-4,7%) - Data more stable in the Europe of 27, which marks a slight decrease in the deficit from 12,3 to 12,2 billion.

The data on the trade balance of the Eurozone are improving. After the bad news on the trend of the GDP, Eurostat reports that in June the surplus was 0,9 billion, up from the surplus of 0,2 billion the previous month and the +0,7 billion recorded in the same period last year.

On closer inspection, however, both imports and exports recorded a heavy drop on a monthly basis: the former by 4,1%, the latter by 4,7%. Looking beyond the monetary union, in the Europe of 27 the trade balance deficit remained almost unchanged, going from 12,3 to 12,2 billion euro.
