What an unseemly spectacle that of the Italian delegations in European Parliament where, despite the favorable pronouncement of a very large majority, they voted against the weaponry Western countries to Ukraine to counter Russia's aggressive war. Only 4 parliamentarians, two from the Democratic Party (Picerno and Gualmini) and two from Forza Italia (Salini and Falcone) have had the courage to support Ukraine to the end by voting in dissonance with their own groups. You can verbally support Ukraine as much as you want, but if you do not allow it to use the weapons it receives from the West to strike not indiscriminately and not civilian targets but only the bases from which Moscow launches missiles and drones that kill Ukrainians, solidarity is reduced to pure hypocrisy. But how can we explain this sudden Italian retreat? It depends very little on the uncritical pacifism of Pope Bergoglio but it is instead the poisoned fruit of the pro-Putin populisms that are raging in our country on the right as well as on the left. On the right Putin can count on Salvini who has never denied his sympathy for the Russian Tsar and who is fiercely opposed to the arms in Ukraine but above all heavily influences Prime Minister Giorgia Melons who does not want enemies on the right. On the left, the point of reference for Russia's warmongering policy is the leader of the Five Star Movement, Giuseppe Tale, who has always looked at Moscow with special consideration even when he was prime minister. Salvini and Conte say they fear escalation by giving weapons to Zelensky: do they think they can stop it with the definitive capitulation of Ukraine? Salvini and Conte, always them, since the time of the Conte 1 Government, the one of the security decrees and the fight against migrants even at the cost of letting them die at sea. Luckily someone is reasoning and still has the strength to oppose the surrender to Putin.
European Parliament, honor to the 4 Italians (2 PD and 2 FI) who voted for weapons to Ukraine against pro-Putin populism
All Italian delegations in the European Parliament, from right to left, voted against Ukraine's use of Western weapons to defend itself from Russia. But four MPs had the courage to disagree
