Euro at a two-year low against the dollar

The euro is still falling. The single European currency is now well below 1,23 dollars, at its lowest level for over two years against the US currency, which is clearly strengthening. What crushed the euro in particular were the comments of Ewald Nowotny, the Austrian central banker and adviser to the European Central Bank.

Nowotny, who has anticipated changes in Frankfurt's monetary policy in the past, underlined that the purchase of government bonds is an option to consider to address the massive deterioration of the euro zone economy.

These externalities have helped push the euro up to quota 1,2247 dollars, while the greenback continues to benefit from the better-than-expected numbers on the employment front that arrived on Friday, which lead many operators to believe that a rate hike by the Federal Reserve is closer. Around 14,55 pm the single currency slowed down slightly, reaching 1,224885 dollars.
