The number of Italians who have a positive opinion on the euro is increasing. According to the latest Eurobarometer survey, to date 57 percent of our compatriots consider the single currency a "good thing" for the country. The result is 12 percent higher than last year.
The survey also shows that the euro is considered a negative thing by 30% of Italians, while a year ago 40% of citizens surveyed thought so.
At the continental level, compared to last year, the share of citizens indicating the existence of the euro as a positive fact for their country has increased in 12 eurozone states with higher increases in Italy and Austria (12 percentage points of increase), in Latvia (+10 points) and in Slovenia (+9).
On the other hand, consensus falls in Germany and France: -6 and -5 percentage points respectively. Now 70% of Germans believe that the euro is a 'good thing', while the consensus of the French is not far from Italian levels (59%).
