Etruria, Gentiloni: "Boschi clarified, Pd candidate". Consuls in commission

The story around the bankruptcy of Banca Etruria continues to take center stage: it is being discussed in the banking commission, with the latest interrogation today of the former CEO of Veneto Banca Vincenzo Consoli, while the political controversy is returned to overwhelm the former Minister of Reforms of the Renzi government, Maria Elena Boschi, currently undersecretary and indirectly involved by virtue of the presence of his father Pier Luigi in the top management of the Tuscan institute.

To defend Maria Elena Boschi the premier Paolo Gentiloni also spoke: “Minister Boschi – said the premier at a press conference in Brussels – he clarified the circumstances that emerged in the hearing of the president of Consob Joseph Vegas. I don't allow myself to give judgments on the commission but I hope that the next few weeks will not be dominated by squabbles about the banks. I am not the judge of added or non-added value. I think – he said again – that Maria Elena has clarified everything that needs to be clarified, therefore she will be a candidate for the Democratic Party and I hope she will be successful”. Gentiloni therefore ruled out the hypothesis of a candidacy of Boschi in an electoral list in the name of the prime minister, also excluding the very possibility of creating that type of list: “A hypothetical 'Lista Gentiloni' in the next elections – he underlined – it doesn't seem realistic to me".

Consoli, on the other hand, declared, when questioned by the parliamentary commission investigating the various recent bank crashes, that the meeting at the Boschi home between the top management of Etruria and Veneto Banca took place and Maria Elena Boschi also took part: "Minister Mary Helen Woods participated in a meeting with the top management of Banca Etruria and Veneto Banca in the family home in Arezzo in Easter 2014, for a quarter of an hour, in which he did not utter a word, after which he got up and left”, said the former CEO of Veneto Banca in the hearing. The meeting took place "because we knew that Etruria had received a letter similar to ours from Bankitalia" in which it asked for the merger with a partner of "high standing" and then indicating it as Popolare Vicenza.
