Redundancies Alitalia, Lupi: "The company's response and response by tomorrow at 11"

"The definitive answer will have to arrive tomorrow by 11 am. Tomorrow everyone will assume their responsibilities, because I believe it is a duty, given that the CEO of Etihad will be in Italy next week, to present themselves with an answer".

Alitalia and the unions will have to give a definitive answer on the negotiations for the 2.251 redundancies by tomorrow at 11. This was stated by the head of Transport and Infrastructure, Maurizio Lupi, on the sidelines of the table underway at the ministry, explaining that it is not an ultimatum, but of a necessary deadline in view of the arrival of the managing director of Etihad, James Hogan, who expects to know if the conditions set by the Arabs for the purchase of the Italian company will be met.

“At 16,30 pm – said Lupi – we called the company and the unions to take stock of the negotiations of these days. You know all the issues: the contract, job cuts and redundancies. Work has been done positively in recent days, bearing in mind that this is a great opportunity for the relaunch of Alitalia. The definitive answer will have to arrive tomorrow by 11 am. Tomorrow everyone will assume their own responsibilities, because I believe it is a duty, given that Hogan will be in Italy next week, to present themselves with an answer. There is no ultimatum date, we had already said that the deadline was set for the end of next week, for the deal to be closed with the banks, shareholders and Etihad. No ultimatums, no breakups. The government will ask for a final answer tomorrow. We've worked well up to now and I don't see why we shouldn't close on a positive note".

During this afternoon's meeting, the Government will present new proposals for the management of redundancies. “As Renzi said – concluded Lupi – the prospect is the risk of the abyss”.
