Estra Energie, agreement with AzzeroCO2

Estra Energie, a company of the Estra Group active on the market for the sale of natural gas and electricity, has signed a three-year agreement with AzzeroCO2, a sustainability and energy company owned by Legambiente and the Kyoto Club, for the launch of a structured program to offset the CO2 emissions produced in the combustion phase of the methane gas sold. Emissions compensation will take place through the purchase of CO2 credits on the voluntary market, deriving from international projects for the development of renewable energy certified Gold Standard, i.e. selected from those with the highest profile with the best social, environmental and economic characteristics and compliant with leading internationally recognized testing standards.

From today Estra will therefore offer citizens the possibility of contribute to the achievement of sustainability objectives, proposing a natural gas offer which, thanks to the agreement with AzzeroCO2, offsets the equivalent CO2 emissions deriving from gas consumption. Not only Estra Energie, which plays the lead role for the agreement with AzzeroCO2, but also EstraPrometeo, has among its lists the gas offer with compensated CO2 emissions, linked to the combustion phase. At the same time Estra launches an ambitious project aimed at the redevelopment of the Italian territory, an initiative made possible thanks to the adhesion to "Mosaico Verde", a large national forestation campaign conceived and promoted by AzzeroCO2 and Legambiente born with the aim of facilitating the meeting between the needs of local authorities to recover green areas and the willingness of companies to invest resources in the creation or protection of permanent forests, as a measure of Corporate Social Responsibility.

The forestation interventions supported by Estra envisage the planting of around 9.000 trees over the next three years. Specifically, the project will involve Municipalities and Park Institutions in Central Italy, the area where Estra has its origins. For the first year, forestation interventions will take place in the municipalities of Ancona, Civitella in Val di Chiana (AR) and Calenzano (FI). “With this agreement – declares Francesco Macrì, President of Estra – the Group confirms the primary focus on sustainable development objectives and the conscious and proactive approach in managing its business. The enhancement of territories and communities is at the heart of Estra's work which pursues it through a multiplicity of initiatives aimed at creating shared value."

“As AzzeroCO2 we are proud to start this journey with Estra: a company that has been pursuing sustainable development objectives in its corporate strategy for years,” he declares. Sandro Scollato, CEO of AzzeroCO2 -. A concrete example of how companies can, indeed must, be protagonists of ecological reconversion and of an economy that has protection and respect for the environment among its guidelines. The commitment to make citizens participate and aware of the fact that their choices can concretely contribute to this change also responds to these principles, a model of collaboration between individuals and businesses for that path of sustainability in which we are all called to our side."

“We are facing an important historic moment – says Katuscia Eroe, National Legambiente Energy Manager – in which the climate challenge confronts us with important objectives for change that will have to affect all production sectors. Among these certainly the energy sector which will see important changes. But in this phase in which we still cannot do without gas, it is important to promote the development of biomethane and projects to offset emissions, including with reforestation projects that can an important and lasting role in the fight against climate change. The protagonism of private companies is also important, as they can contribute so much in terms of innovation and change of territories, towards the zero emissions goal.”

“The offers Choice Pure Gas and Choice Pure Light – he says Samuele Vaiani, Commercial Director of Estra Energie – demonstrate Estra's concrete, active and permanent commitment to sustainability in favor of an increasingly large part of our customers. The Green offers, in fact, replace the basic offers of our portfolio and aim to make the commitment to the environment a habit and not a simple possibility."
