Wind, Enel wins plants in Russia

Enel, through its subsidiary PJSC Enel Russia, has been awarded a new wind farm of over 71 MW1, following the 2019 public auction for renewables called by the Russian government. The Rodnikovsky plant will be built in the Stavropol region, and the development and construction works will be entrusted to Enel Green Power, Enel's global division dedicated to renewable energies.

“This latest award represents another important step forward for us in Russia, following the recent start of construction works on the Azov wind farm,” he commented. Antonio Cammisecra, head of Enel Green Power. “We confirm once again our commitment to exploiting the country's renewable potential and to diversifying its generation mix, contributing our consolidated experience to the development, construction and management of renewable plants. In the future, we will continue to work tirelessly on consolidating and expanding our presence in renewables in Russia, pursuing a business model increasingly focused on sustainability".

Enel Russia's total investment in the Rodnikovsky plant is approximately 90 million euros. The wind farm will be fully operational in the first half of 2024, e it is expected to generate about 220 GWh per year avoiding the emission of approximately 180 thousand tons of CO2 into the atmosphere. The plant will sell the energy produced on the Russian wholesale market, and will be supported by capacity payments.

The Russian auction for renewable energies for the period 2020-2024 was held between 28 May and 10 June, with the object of the award of approximately 314 MW of renewable capacity, of which 78,1 MW from wind sources, 229,8 5,6 MW from mini-hydroelectric plants and 2013 MW from solar sources. The Russian government held the first annual auction in 4,5, aiming to reach 5,4% of energy generated from renewable sources and 2024 GW of installed renewable capacity by XNUMX.

In addition to this result, Enel Russia had already won the wind farms 90 MW Azov wind farm, currently under construction and due to enter service in 2020, and the 201 MW Murmansk wind farm, which will start operating in 2021, in the 2017 tender for 1,9 GW of wind capacity. EGP is responsible for the development and construction of all three plants. Enel Russia's investment in the Azov wind farm amounts to around 132 million euros and around 273 million in the Murmansk one.
