Wind, Enel enters the Russian market

Enel enters the Russian renewable energy market. Through its subsidiary PJSC, Enel Russia has been awarded two wind projects for a total capacity of 291 MW, as part of the tender launched this year by the Russian government for the construction of 1,9 GW of wind capacity. The two projects will be developed and built by Enel Green Power.

The total investment, according to a company note, amounts to approximately 405 million euros. The two plants will sell their energy on the Russian wholesale market and will be supported by capacity payments agreements with the Russian government.

In detail, the Azof wind farm, which should come online by 2020, explains Enel's press release, is located in the Rostov region, in southern Russia, and will have an installed capacity of 90 MW, capable of generating approximately 300 GWh per year, avoiding the emission of approximately 99.200 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere.

As for the Murmansk wind farm, located in the homonymous north-western region of Russia, it should enter service by 2021 and will be able to count on an installed capacity of 201 MW, capable of generating 730 GWh a year, avoiding 241.400 tons of CO2 in the atmosphere.

“We are very satisfied with this result – commented Antonio Cammisecra, head of Enel Green Power – because we want to actively contribute to the transition towards a more eco-sustainable future in Russia, a country characterized by an immense green energy potential that has not yet been fully developed. We see the result of the tender as the start of a sustainable wind energy chain in Russia, capable of creating benefits both for the environment and for the full development of the country's renewable energy sector. We can maximize this great potential thanks to our unique global expertise in green energy and our decades of operational experience in the Russian market”.

At the opening today, Enel's share on the Stock Exchange lost about half a percentage point, to 4,828 euros.
