It is made for the official start of oil production at the Kashagan field in Kazakhstan: it should start this week, as anticipated over the weekend by the CEO of Eni himself, Paolo Scaroni, who welcomed China National Petroleum Corp, which has entered the shareholding structure that manages the field in Kazakhstan with 8,37%.
"It is good news. It means that CNPC has confidence in the development of this project for which we expect the long-awaited departure shortly", commented Scaroni. The Chinese group, paying out about 5 billion dollars, took the place of Conoco Phillips, thus becoming a partner of the Italian oil company, already present in the consortium with a 16,81% stake (equal to those of the local company KazMunaiGas, Shell, Total and ExxonMobil).
