Eni sells to China National Petroleum Corporation 28,57% of Eni East Africa, owner of 70% of the investment in Area 4 in the Mozambique offshore. The agreed price is equal to 4,21 billion US dollars. The agreement was signed in Beijing by the CEO of Eni Paolo Scaroni and the CEO of Petrochina Company Limited (a company controlled by the CNPC), Zhou Jiping. 

With this operation, inform a note, CNPC indirectly acquires 20% stake in Area 4, while Eni remains 50% owner. The remaining shares in the area are held by Empresa Nacional de Hidrocarbonetos de Mocambique-Enh (10%), Kogas (10%) and Galp Energia (10%).

In the wake of this news, by mid-morning Eni's share on the Stock Exchange gained just under two points. 

Eni and CNPC have also signed a "joint study agreement" for cooperation aimed at developing the Rongchang shale gas block, which extends for approximately 2 square kilometers in the Sichuan Basin, in China. 

"This area, located near the main Chinese consumer markets and of which the mining risk has already been reduced by research activities and production trials conducted in neighboring blocks, has proved to be the most promising in the country to date", he said. reads again in the note. The agreement will allow for the study of the area, which will be conducted together with the negotiations for the signing of the "production sharing agreement".
