“At Eni we believe that all dimensions of diversity are of the utmost importance. In
in particular, gender equality is fundamental in view of the key role of women in the human development of every social group, from the family to the community and to business. Furthermore, gender equality is strongly integrated into the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to which Eni's current corporate commitments and future goals are aligned. With the signing of the WEPs, Eni will have access to new and interesting opportunities to further strengthen its support for gender equality and empowerment, progressing along its path towards achieving these objectives", said the CEO of Eni Claudio Descalzi which summarize the meaning of Eni's adherence to the UN principles of women's emancipation.

“For more than a decade, the Women Empowerment Principles have helped companies accelerate gender equality and advance the empowerment of women in the workplace, marketplace and society. With women making up half of the global population but remaining underrepresented in business, WEPs provide the roadmap needed to break down barriers to women's economic empowerment. I welcome you to this growing community of signatories and thank you for using WEPs as a guide in your sustainability journey, to guide and shape the path to a more equal world where women and girls can thrive,” she commented. Sanda Ojiambo, UN Global Compact Executive Director.

In line with this approach, the company undertakes to integrate a gender perspective into its internal and external processes, as well as into its local development projects, also through the implementation of assessments that take into account gender, to ensure that the activities are truly inclusive and that women are both beneficiaries and leaders of corporate initiatives. Eni is also involved in education projects with its stakeholders, such as Coding Girls, to spread the culture of women's empowerment and encourage their access to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) careers.

Jointly established by the UN Global Compact and UN Women, the WEPs are based on international labor and human rights standards and recognition of the key role of business in promotinggender equality and women's empowerment. Adopting the seven principles is the best way for companies to achieve their ambitions for gender equality and women's empowerment, as outlined in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the 17 SDGs.
