Eni discovers gas field in Mozambique. It is the largest ever found in the company's history

Historic day for Eni. Today the "six-legged dog" made the biggest discovery in its history as an operator, namely a giant natural gas field in Mozambique, 40 kilometers off the coast of Cabo Delgado and in the Mamba South 1 exploration prospect. According to the company, the area can hold a potential of 425 billion cubic meters of gas.

The results of the exploratory survey "exceed expectations - explains Eni in a note - and confirm the Rovuma basin as a new gas province of global importance. The well is expected to reach a depth of 5000 meters." At the end of the drilling and testing activities, the plant will move on to drill the second well, Mamba Nord 1. The discovery will lead to a large-scale gas deployment thanks to direct exports to international and regional markets "through the use of LNG and supplies to the domestic market which will allow us to support the country's industrial and economic growth".

Once the development process is complete, the giant gas field offshore Mozambique will be able to produce the equivalent of 360.000 barrels of gas per day. This is what emerges from Eni's estimates released today to the press. Meanwhile, the news of Gaddafi's death arrived, just one month after the restart of the Greenstream gas pipeline linking Libya and Sicily. The company's managing director, Paolo Scaroni, explained that “a little gas is already arriving in Italy using the surplus from Wafa, around 4 million cubic meters a day. When Sabrath is also fully operational, it will become 20-25 million cubic metres. That's okay because our anguish was to be able to bring gas to Italy for the winter season”.

Positive news for the group also from the Stock Exchange. On an extremely negative day for Piazza Affari, "the six-legged dog", driven by the discovery in Mozambique, gains +0,64%.
