Eni: gas discovered offshore Cyprus

New studies are required for an accurate assessment of the size of the discovery – Eni is the operator of Block 6, where the discovery was made, with a 50% stake: Total is a partner with the remaining 50%.

Eni announces that it has made a gas discovery in Block 6, offshore Cyprus, through the Calypso 1 well. The company announced this in a note. The well, drilled in 2.074 meters of water depth and at a total depth of 3.827 meters, encountered an extensive methane gas mineralized column in rocks of Miocene and Cretaceous age.

A sampling campaign on fluids and rocks was carried out on the well. Calypso 1 is a promising gas discovery and confirms the extension of the Zohr research theme into the exclusive economic waters of Cyprus. New studies and a delineation program are required for an accurate assessment of the size of the discovery.

Eni is the operator of Block 6 with a 50% stake and Total is a partner with the remaining 50%. Eni has been present in Cyprus since 2013 and holds interests in six licenses located in the exclusive economic waters of the republic (in Blocks 2, 3, 6, 8, 9 and 11), five as operator.
