"We believe we have always acted in accordance with best practice, we have launched an internal investigation to demonstrate that we have always acted in complete transparency". Eni's CEO, Paolo Scaroni, said this in a conference call answering a question on the investigation into alleged bribes by Saipem in Algeria. Speaking of the top management of the plant engineering company, replaced last December, Scaroni spoke of "zero tolerance".
The manager then reiterated his non-involvement in the events for which he is being investigated by the Milan prosecutor: "As regards Saipem, neither Eni nor I are involved in any way with the practices under investigation".
