Eni, new oil and gas discovery in Norway

Good news from Norway for Eni. The Italian energy giant has discovered a new oil and gas field in the Barents Sea, 240 km from Hammersfest and five kilometers south of the Johan Castberg area. The well – which falls under the PL532 exploration license on the Skavl exploration prospectus – was drilled at a water depth of 349 meters and reached a depth of 1.700 metres. The company communicates this, specifying that, when the Skavl well is completed, exploration will move 16 kilometers further north, where another well will be completed in the Krasmno exploration prospect.

Eni explains that "the well has ascertained the presence of good quality oil and gas in the sandstones of the Jurassic and Triassic ages, with recoverable oil volumes estimated at between 20 and 50 million barrels". The discovery is part of the exploration activity that the joint venture, of which Eni is a part, is carrying out to implement the development project of the Johan Castberg field.

Statoil is the operator for the production in the PL532 license with a 50% stake, while Eni Norge AS has a 30% stake and Petoro AS with 20%. Eni is present in Norway with an equity production of approximately 110 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Meanwhile, today the CEO of Eni, Paolo scaroni, met the President of the Republic of the Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, to take stock of Eni's activities and projects underway in the country, with particular attention to recent discoveries. The Italian group and the Congolese state company (Société Nationale des Petroles du Congo) will jointly explore the hydrocarbon potential of the Ngolo block, which is part of the Cuvette geological basin and is located about 350 kilometers northeast of the capital Brazaville.

Eni, through its company Eni Congo, participates in the joint venture with Snpc for the exploration of the block as operator. The Italian company recently made an important offshore oil and gas discovery in the Nene' Marine exploration prospect, located in the Marine XII block, about 17 kilometers from the coast. Eni, through Eni Congo is operator of the Marine XII block with a 65% stake. The other partners are New Age with 25% and SNPC with 10%.

At the beginning of the afternoon, Eni's stock gained 0,4%.
