Eni in Libya: investments of 8 billion dollars in 10 years

Eni will invest eight billion dollars in Libya over the next 10 years. The plan was presented yesterday by the CEO of the Italian energy giant, Paolo Scaroni, who met in Tripoli with the Libyan prime minister, Ali Zidan, and his oil minister, Abdelbari al Arusi. Eni intends to carry out a program for the development of existing productions and new exploration activities in the North African country.

During yesterday's appointment, the memorandum of understanding for social sustainability activities (worth around 400 million dollars) was also discussed, which will be finalized in the next few weeks. The common goal is to sign the document during Ali Zidan's visit to Rome, scheduled for the end of January 2013.

Finally, the Prime Minister asked Eni for its willingness to develop new downstream activities together with the new branch of the National Oil Corporation which will be established in Benghazi.

Eni has been present in Libya since 1959 and is the leading international hydrocarbon operator with around a third of the country's total production and an equity production of around 80% of production before the Revolution.

This morning in Piazza Affari, Eni's shares are in the red by 0,3%.
