Eni anxious about Libya, Wafa field shut down

Libya worries Eni. The deterioration of the security conditions in the North African country risks creating serious problems for the Italian energy giant, so much so that the managing director Paolo Scaroni, on the sidelines of a conference on Myanmar at the Farnesina, admitted: "On Libya we are a bit ' worry”.

The main problem concerns the structure of Wafa, a natural gas field located in the Libyan desert near the border with Algeria. At the moment the structure "is at a standstill and there are no reopening forecasts", confessed the CEO of Eni. “We produce domestic gas off-shore” through Mellitah.

Another problem for the Italian company is the United States' access to shale gas which has brought the United States a competitive advantage in terms of costs and investments. CEO Paolo Scaroni once again addresses the issue in an interview with CNN: “I believe – he explained – that there is a real energy emergency in Europe: European countries pay three times more for gas than the United States and they pay twice as much for electricity”. This difference makes it "really difficult to think of industrial investments in Europe and this creates concerns for the future of Europe itself".
