Eni teams up with Aci for sustainable mobility: from sneakers to biojet a leap into the future

Eni and Aci join forces to push for sustainable mobility and accelerate the energy transition. As? With an agreement that also involves the Italian federation of motor sport. In fact, it is no coincidence that the Monza racetrack was chosen to present the new alliance on the eve of the Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday 11 September. If the dates have a symbolic value, here we celebrate the Centenary of the Monza racetrack, an event which will be attended by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella. So this is the framework within which Eni, Aci and the Auto Sports Federation present their “cooperation to accelerate the widespread use of products, services and solutions for sustainable mobility and energy transition. The widespread presence of ACI - specifies the press release - will therefore be combined with technologies and business of all Eni companies, with a holistic and transversal approach, but also "made to measure".

With the agreement, Eni also presents its business Sustainable b2b which is aimed at a large number of productive sectors - from air to sea transport, from land reclamation to agriculture, from telecommunications to banks and more - which puts into play a sustainable offer, including recycling and the circular economy, mainly channeled along these lines:

  • new biofuels and products of biogenic origin, obtained from scraps and waste or from vegetable raw materials that do not compete with the food chain
  • the new alternative energy carriers such as hydrogen
  • the supply of electricity produced from renewable sources
  • solutions for water management and for the regeneration of territories
  • sustainable aviation fuels
  • disinfectants and herbicides from renewable and biodegradable raw materials
  • products made with recycled plastic

Eni's approach is holistic, underlines the energy group, and focuses on a future based on sustainability, which essentially means offering products and services in an integrated manner. In fact, the "package" also includes the mobility services of Enjoy, the charging stations but also the technology for Carbon Capture and Storage as well as nuclear energy from magnetic overspill fusion being tested together with Borston's MIT in the USA.

The agreement was signed by the general manager Energy Evolution of Eni, Giuseppe Ricci who underlined how it represents “the arrival point of a process that began a few years ago and which has allowed us to redefine the guidelines for the evolution and future of Eni's energy; on the other it is certainly the starting point for a new approach to our stakeholders”. The other signature is that of the president of theAutomobile Club of Italy, Angelo Sticchi Damiani who expects a push from the agreement with Eni "towards ever safer, cleaner, more environmentally friendly mobility".

If bio herbicides and sneakers with soles in sustainable materials produced by mixing 51% of the waste and residues of internal production of the Eni group are on display, there is no shortage of biojet fuels for aviation. The latter too were at the center of an agreement presented at Monza by Eni, this time with Ita Airways.

Eni with Ita: first flight with the Biojet

Also in Monza Eni announced that the new Airbus A350, light blue livery, of ITA Airways named after the myth Enzo Ferrari for the centenary of the Monza racetrack, it will make its first flight with SAF Eni Biojet, the sustainable fuel for aviation, leading the way for the Frecce Tricolori in conjunction with the national anthem at the time of departure.

Eni Biojet is the first SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) produced in the Eni refinery in Livorno, mixed at 20% in Eni Jet Fuel, and made in synergy with the Eni biorefinery in Gela, exclusively from waste raw materials, animal fats and oils exhausted vegetables. From 2024, the production of an additional 150 thousand tonnes/year of Eni Biojet will start in Gela, capable of satisfying the potential mixing obligation of the Italian market for 2025.
