Eni: two new photovoltaic plants in Pakistan and Tunisia

Eni has started the construction of two new photovoltaic plants in Tunisia and Pakistan. The six-legged dog announced it in a note, specifying that the operation is part of the decarbonisation strategy carried out by the group.

The new plants will be built by the subsidiaries Eni New Energy Pakistan and Eni Tunisia BV. The Asian plant will be built near the Bhit gas field (where Eni is operator with a 40% interest) and will have a capacity of 10 MegaWatts, while the African one will be built in the Aam oil concession (Eni operator with a 25% interest) with a installed capacity of 5 MW..

The plants will provide green energy to power the on-site oil and gas sites and will operate in an offgrid configuration. It means that they will not be connected to the national electricity grid, but will supply the electricity circuit linked to business activity.

These projects, among the first of their kind, underlined the Eni group in the note, will allow in both cases "to release and valorise the saved gas for sale".

The start of Eni's transition towards renewables is one of the reasons why the Italian group - together with all the other oil giants on the planet - was spared the Norwegian Sovereign Fund (the largest in the world), which recently announced its decision to divest from oil.
