Eni has started production at the Goliat field off the coast of Norway. It is the first oil plant to go into production in the Arctic, to be precise in an ice-free area in the Barents Sea.

According to estimates, the field contains reserves equal to 180 million barrels of oil and will allow a production of 100 barrels of oil per day, of which 65.000 net to Eni.

"The launch of Goliat represents an important milestone in Eni's growth plan and will contribute significantly to the generation of cash flow," writes the company.

In License 229, Eni holds a 65% stake, while the Norwegian Statoil holds the remaining 35%. Eni has been present in Norway since 1965, where it operates through its subsidiary Eni Norge AS.

In the country, the company has interests in exploration licenses and fields in production, including Ekofisk, Åsgard, Heidrun and Kristin, with total equity production in 2015 of 106 barrels equivalent per day.
