In a world crossed by geopolitical crises, environmental emergencies and technological revolutions, the tEnergy management is no longer a choice, but a necessityIt is in this scenario that Eni presents his new voluntary sustainability report, "Eni for 2024 – A Just Transition“, now in its nineteenth edition. A document that goes beyond simple reporting: is a strategic manifesto for a just transition, which combines innovation, social inclusion and environmental respect.
“We live times of rapid and complex changes – writes the CEO Claudio Descalzi –. In a context marked by instability and uncertainty, it's no longer enough to adapt: we must lead change, anticipating trends with innovative solutions and courageously facing risks and opportunities”. Precisely this ability to “anticipate and transform” is, according to Descalzi, one of Eni’s distinctive traits. “In 2024,” he adds, “we achieved concrete results along our transformation path, combining environmental, economic and social sustainability”.
A clear, integrated and accessible narrative
This year marks a turning point in reporting of sustainability: the introduction of the new European CSRD Directive (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) has set new standards (ESRS) for mandatory reporting. Eni responded with a double action: on the one hand, his first Sustainability Reporting in accordance with the new rules; on the other hand, the maintenance of the voluntary report “Eni for“, designed to be more readable, full of case studies and interviews, and aimed at all stakeholders, from the general public to investors.
The Business Model: Integration, Innovation and Shared Value
At the basis of Eni's strategy is the so-called satellite model, which provides for the birth of autonomous entities and specialized in crucial sectors of the energy transition, capable of attracting capital and accelerating innovation. A model already operational with companies such as Fullness (renewables, retail and e-mobility) and enilive (biofuels and sustainable mobility), which represent the vanguard of Eni's transformation.
Eni is no longer (just) an oil & gas giant, but a Global player in integrated energy, active along the entire value chain: from upstream to retail, through green chemistry, renewables, digitalisation and carbon capture and storage (CCS).
Decarbonisation: numbers and concrete commitments
One of the central chapters of the report is dedicated to the carbon neutrality by 2050, an ambitious goal but pursued with pragmatism. results speak for themselves: compared to 2018, net emissions Scope 1 and 2 decreased by 55% in Upstream and by 37% at Group level. Eni also aims to bring the methane emissions close to zero by 2030 and has already published his first Methane Report.
Also important is thewater target: Eni intends to reach the water positivity (i.e. a positive water balance) in at least 30% of high-abstraction operated sites by 2035. Already today, 90% of the freshwater used is reused.
Plenitude and Enilive: the “outposts” of the transition
Plenitude surpasses 4 GW of installed renewable capacity and looks at 15 GW by 2030. It is present in 10 million homes and businesses, and has over 21.000 charging points for electric vehicles. An integrated ecosystem that combines green energy, sales and electric mobility.

enilive, for its part, reached a level in 2024 biorefining capacity of 1,65 million tons and aims to exceed 5 million by 2030. The company is also investing in SAF production (sustainable aviation fuel) and announced the reconversion of the Livorno refinery while similar projects are progressing in South Korea, Malaysia and the United States.
Versalis, the chemistry that changes skin
Other pillar of the industrial plan and the Transformation of Versalis, the group's chemical company. The new 2 billion euro plan focuses on biochemistry, recycled materials and greater economic sustainability, with a clear goal: to cut emissions by 40% by 2029. The collaborations already active also concern the chemical recycling of packaging and tires.

Innovation and supercomputers: Eni bets on the future
THEInnovation is the driving force behind Eni's transition. In 2024, HPC6 was launched, one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world (first in Europe), and created Eniquantic, the new company dedicated to the development of quantum computing. Eni continues to invest in nuclear fusion too, collaborating with Commonwealth Fusion Systems and other international players.
People at the center
Eni recognizes the value of its people as a key element of the transformation. In 2024, nearly 3.000 new employees were hired and 74% of the workforce had access to psychological support services. The commitment to gender equality, well-being and training continues, with the goal of increasing training hours by 15% by 2028.
Particular attention was paid to the of your digital ecosystem. , following the tragedy of the accident at the Calenzano fuel depot: Eni reiterated its absolute commitment to safety, collaborating fully with the authorities.

In 2024 Eni invested almost €89 million in over 100 local development projects in 21 countries, in areas such as access to water, energy, health and education. The company has strengthened its partnerships with ILO and IFC to improve working conditions along the agri-feedstock value chain, and works to reach 10 million people with livelihood systems clean cooking by 2027.
The final message of the report is clear: the energy transition is irreversible, and it can only be right if guided with vision, competence and courage. As Descalzi underlines, it is no longer a question of adapting, but of "charting new routes“. Eni has decided to do so by focusing on innovation, responsibility and people.
