Engie (Gdf Suez): 100 million euro fund for startups

Engie Italia, a company of the Gdf Suez group, has announced that it will put available 100 million euro in projects for innovation, also in urban areas and for sustainable development, with the establishment of "ENGIE New Ventures investment fund". At the same time, ENGIE launched the "Open Innovation" platform to share energy efficiency, green mobility and smart energy management solutions.

“Also through these huge financial resources, its qualified internal R&D skills (900 researchers and experts in 11 R&D centres), a worldwide know-how, ENGIE intends to help build a new ecosystem that has smart cities as the main engine of a model that aims at decarbonisation, the development of renewables, the reduction of consumption”, said Aldo Chiarini, president of ENGIE, during the conference on metropolitan cities held in Florence.

“The private sector will therefore play its part, but an active role for public administrations is still essential. If only for three reasons: public buildings often have poor energy performance; in terms of "spending review", energy is a significant expense item; to set a virtuous example, promoting a process of modernization towards the citizens”, explains a note from the company.
