Energy, Terna: CEO Ferraris awarded as manager of the year

The CEO of the company that manages the national electricity grid was awarded during the XIX annual Agici and Accenture Workshop "Utilities, heritage for the country's growth". In his speech, Ferraris addressed the institutions, businesses and territories, explaining how important their role is in promoting the energy transition

That of the energy transition it is a crucial issue when it comes to sustainability and "requires that all the actors involved contribute to creating the conditions necessary to favor the change we are preparing for in a harmonious and safe way, and I am referring to institutions, companies, territories who will have to be increasingly involved in strategic and long-term choices". These are the words of Luigi Ferraris, CEO of Terna – company that manages the national electricity grid – in his speech during the XIX Agici and Accenture annual workshop in Milan on "Utilities, a heritage for the growth of the country - What policies to accelerate investments", during which he received the "Manager Utility 2018 - Energy" award.

At the basis of the recognition – says the motivation for the award – there is “the commitment lavished on Terna which enabler towards an increasingly sustainable, efficient, safe and innovative energy model".

The energy manager of the year award was presented to Luigi Ferraris by one of the two winners of last year: Alexander Garrone, executive vice president of ERG. The award was assigned by a commission made up of the committees of the MUI magazine, which includes authoritative professors and exponents of the industrial world.

“This award represents the recognition of Terna's and my commitment to making the electricity grid increasingly efficient, secure and sustainable. We are protagonists of an energy transition that involves the entire sector and the electricity vector is one of the essential tools for achieving the targets set by the Energy and Climate Plan. The energy transition creates the need to invest in renewable sources and network infrastructure, including storage systems, as well as in the management and renewal of the conventional programmable fleet, increasingly polarized towards the supply of network services”.

Terna's sustainability plan is structured on many levels, from environmental protection, to plastic free projects within the company, investments in energy infrastructure through the issue of green bonds. “The energy transition that will radically change the physiognomy of the electricity system is the tomorrow we must prepare for and for which everyone is called to play their part. In this context, precisely by virtue of its key role, Terna intends to be the protagonist and activator of change in all its elements” concluded Ferraris, who has held the position of CEO and general manager of Terna for May 2017.
