European roof at price of gas, push on renewable to replace fossil fuels, energy efficiency, economic support to families and businesses most in difficulty with bills. On these measures i election programs of all the main Italian parties are substantially in agreement, as noted in a recent article by the Observatory on Italian public accounts (structure directed by Carlo Cottarelli, who is a candidate with the Democratic Party for the next policies).
The analysis then places the accent on the divergences on the subject of the energy, underlining that there are essentially four points of friction.
Energy: the points of contrast between electoral programmes
1) Regasifiers
On the need for the country to acquire new regasification terminals to import liquefied gas by sea, the centre-right and the third pole are in favour, the left and the Five Stars are against, while the position of the Democratic Party is less clear-cut: yes for now, but only until we will find a way to replace gas with cleaner energy.
2) New drilling
Only the third pole explicitly favors the opportunity to authorize new drilling, while the centre-right favors the tepid and the Democratic Party does not mention it in the programme. Strongly against M5S, left and Greens.
3) Nuclear energy
On the possibility of returning to the use of nuclear energy, the League and the third pole are in favour, the Brothers of Italy and +Europe do not say no a priori but do not want a complete change in this direction, while all the other parties are clearly against.
4) Waste-to-energy plants
The construction of new waste-to-energy plants brings the Pd, the third pole and the centre-right into agreement. On the other hand, Cinque Stelle and Sinistra are against it, considering it an obsolete technology for the treatment of urban waste.
“Vague schedules and no cost estimates”
In general, the Observatory notes that, in terms of energy, "the electoral programs of the main Italian political parties are rather vague and only in rare cases are they accompanied by estimates of the costs of the interventions and compatibility with the public budget".
